What do two brothers, two pastors, four laymen, five white, one black, six English-speaking and one Creole-speaking have in common? Living Waters, the first of many (we hope) missions to the remotest parts of Haiti. Community wells will be dug to bring clean drinking water to thirsty people, but then, through the portable Jesus Film back-pack, we’ ll introduce people to Jesus, the Living Water.
Doing good to bodies and souls of people. Potable water is such a precious commodity in Haiti, and one we tend to take for granted here in the states. In my many trips there I have always observed the people walking long distances to sources of water carrying heavy buckets on their heads. Even young children are sent to fetch water. Wherever water flows in the rivers people may be found bathing and washing clothes. Nazarenes have responded in Haiti with the Haiti Water Project. Our fundraising for Gros-Morne included a well project for the church.
On Monday morning at 8:00 am (October 21st), the small team described above will meet for the first time at Miami International Airport to travel to Port-au-Prince. Then it is on to Gros-Morne, and the District Center after a stop in Saint Marc to see how the work on the Pont Tambour Church of the Nazarene is progressing. On Tuesday, October 22nd, our first destination will be Carreau Daty, where three of the team members visited in August 2012. A well should have been dug there by now and we hope to lay out the foundation for a new church building and get them started with donated funds. As dusk approaches we will set up our portable Jesus Film for a showing there. We anticipate that as always, many will come to Christ.
From Carreau Daty we will seek uncharted territory with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray for our safety and protection. I know, for example, that to get to Carreau Daty, a river must be forged. Going across could be simple. Coming back late at night in total darkness is a different story. So, as you think of where Pascal Permis and I are next week, cover us constantly in prayer. Our prayer is that hundreds will come to Christ for the first time and new churches will be planted as a result. With our God, all things are possible.
