As the date for District Assembly approaches, I have been thinking back to the days in May when Joan and I were prayerfully considering the invitation given to us to come and serve with you in Southern Florida. In some ways it was a painful decision because it involved breaking some precious ties with people and churches we loved in Chicago. We knew that if we came to Florida, we were being asked to be “ALL IN!” In other words, we were being asked to give our energies and vision and resources without reserve, to the mission of Christ in this part of the world.
Well, we felt God leading us to Southern Florida, we arrived at the end of September and we are “ALL IN!”. Over the past seven months we have jumped in with both feet, hit the ground running, and have never stopped. It has been quite a journey and adventure of discovery for us. We have met incredible people and pastors in our congregations! We have discovered some untouched mission fields and missional opportunities. We have been reminded again and again that the task is bigger than we are, and that it will take all of us, and a BIG GOD, to accomplish the work. But HE has called US, and HE has called YOU. And HE calls us to be “ALL IN!” with HIM and with EACH OTHER, to accomplish His Mission.
I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve seen and what I’m learning about the Southern Florida Mission field! I can’t wait to fellowship and worship with the district family that we have already come to love! I can’t wait for us to begin sharing a vision that will give us direction together as we follow Christ into the years ahead! I can’t wait to hear what God has to say through our General Superintendent!
District Assembly will begin Sunday night, April 26 with a wonderful ORDINATION SERVICE. It starts promptly at 7 p.m. and the ministers are all asked to be present at 6 p.m. on the platform to practice for the ministers’ choir. We have four candidates for ordination this year! What a special evening it will be. A reception will follow. Registration of District Assembly delegates will begin after 5 p.m. at the church.
Monday morning, registration tables will be open at 7:30 and the morning service will begin at 8:30 a.m., with Dr. Crocker preaching. I will also be giving my first DS Vision Report to you in the morning session! We will have special guests in Dr. Dan Boone, our Trevecca Nazarene University president, Dr Harold Graves, our president of Nazarene Bible College, and Dr. Jerry Lambert will be representing Nazarene Theological Seminary. Dr. Mark Lail will be with us from the Global Ministry Center, and will be providing resources to us for “Funding the Mission”. We will hear about church planting ideas and opportunities, and discipleship systems that are working well in different places.
I hope to see you at District Assembly! Our sessions this year will be held at New Hope Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Palm City, Florida. Pastor Gary Durham and his staff are all ready to host us with their best southern hospitality. You won’t want to miss this district gathering! See you there!
