Dr. Rick Kiper and his wife Judy currently serve on the board of the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene. Rick is a native Floridian while his wife, Judy, was born in Guatemala. Rick and Judy have led a bi-racial, bilingual household for more than 26 years and have served as lay leaders in the Church of the Nazarene since 1992. As an inseparable team, they have supported each other in a variety of leadership roles such as NYI President, NMI President, SDMI Superintendent, Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee, Steward, and just about every type of volunteer role in the church, including worship team, event coordinator, janitor, and even bus driver.
Parents of four and grandparents of four, the Kipers have ministered to multi-ethnic families for more than two decades. While some church members have visited foreign countries for short-term projects, Rick’s job has taken the Kipers overseas to live and work among other peoples. They are as comfortable teaching a room of high-ranking diplomats as they are visiting the home of a family with no electricity. The Lord has used international, multicultural experiences to endear the Kipers to folks of every race and social status, and He called their youngest daughter, Ingrid, to full-time missionary work. This year she will represent the Southern Florida District while serving in the Philippines.
Rick Kiper has an M.S., Ed.S., and Ph.D., all in the field of Computing Technology in Education. This academic background reflects both his passion for teaching and his desire to use technology in furtherance of the Kingdom. However, Rick and Judy are not afraid of jumping into church-related construction projects, which seem to follow them wherever they travel. Regardless of whether Rick is elected as NMI President, both he and Judy will continue to put their multicultural background and practical experience into the Lord’s service in the Southern Florida District.
