Eunice Joy Brown Donnelly was born on July 12, 1950 in Chattanooga, TN. to Charles (Charlie) and Eunice Brown. The family’s home was located on Signal Mountain, TN. She was the second of two girls and the fourth child of six. She has been preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gay, and her brothers Dole and Gerald. The twins survive her: Dwight and Duane. She attended Signal Mountain Church of the Nazarene while growing up, where she received Jesus as her Savior. She attended Red Bank High School where she graduated in June of 1968.
Joy was raised on Signal Mountain, TN. all her life, which she was very honored before leaving to go Trevecca Nazarene College (now University) in 1968. She completed her degrees in Secondary Education specializing in Mathematics and Home Economics in 1972. While at Trevecca, she met and married her husband Mark, and they were married in December of 1971.
Since that time they have lived in Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma, England, Germany, Louisiana, and back to Florida – being a key and major part of Mark’s ministry around the world and in the local church. Her ministries came through her being a Chaplain and Pastor’s wife; teaching piano lessons to over 800 students and tutoring many in math over the years. Her sensitivity, love and kindness were her qualities that ministered to national leaders all the way to the smallest child. She will be greatly missed.
Joy went to be with her Savior and Friend on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. She fought cancer the last three years of her earth life and with the qualities that served her so well through her life – she finished her life in the same manner.
There will be a Memorial Service to honor the memory of Joy on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Pompano First Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Brian Wilson will be officiating and Dr. Byron Schortinghouse will be delivering the message at the 11:00 A.M. service. The church is located at 916 N.E. 4th St., Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
In lieu of flowers, Joy requested that donations be given to the Margate Shema Christ Fellowship Church of the Nazarene Children’s Outreach Ministry.
