The requirements contained in the Nazarene Manual for pastors to pursue a pattern of lifelong learning, and in an attempt to offer a solution for the need for Continuing Education Units, a new district committee was convened to address the issue. Since sections 536.15 and 527.6 of the Manual state that Nazarene ministers are expected to complete at least 20 hours of lifelong learning each year, the committees goal is to assist our district pastors in meeting this expectation.
With that goal in mind, January 26, 27 and 28, 2015, an intensive class will be offered at LPCCC, free of charge for all ordained elders and full-time ministers on the Southern Florida District. The class will be Scriptural Counseling Understanding Human Nature from a Biblical Perspective, and will be taught by Dr. Gary Durham and Rev. Jason Hawk. While there will be other opportunities to earn continuing education units through various district events, this class will provide the opportunity to earn all 20 CEUs in one setting. A further goal is to provide an opportunity for our district team to further our pastoral counseling skills a vital tool for anyone involved in ministry in the contemporary church.
The class will be translated on site for Hispanic and Haitian pastors, and opportunity to discuss the information presented will be provided in break-out sessions for all three language groups. We also have the goal to record the classes in order for them to be available to any who might not be able to attend. The recordings will also be translated in order for all our pastors to benefit from the class.
