Jeremiah 30:21 is one of what someone calls “a Jesus verse” in the Old Testament. A prophecy about Jesus of Nazareth who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born the Virgin Mary, lived, died and was resurrected on the third day. He sits at the right hand of the Father ever interceding for us. Not only does He have unlimited access to the Father, He has the place of honor beside God’s throne (Hebrews 12:2). Because “by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone… God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory (Hebrews 2:9-10). He chooses to allow us to be close to Himself. And He is “not ashamed to call us his brothers and sisters” (2:11). Jesus said, “I and the children God has given me,” will “put my trust in Him.”
The NLT translates this verse: “I will invite him to approach me,” says The Lord. “for who would dare to come unless invited? You will be my people and I will be your God.” The Hebrew writer declares that “Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ” (3:6). When you live in someone’s house, you are close. We who believe have that privilege. We can devote ourselves to be close to Him. “We will share in all that belongs to Christ” (Hebrews 3:14).
We’ve been invited into this close relationship with God. It’s like entering into rest. “God’s promise of entering his rest still stands.” And only those “who believe can enter his rest” (Hebrews 4:1-3). “There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God… a place where sin cannot molest… near to the heart of God. O, Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God… hold us who wait before You… near to the heart of God!”
The psalmist asked, “Who may stand in his holy place?” Then answers, “Only those whose hands and hearts are pure…they will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. Such people may seek you (be close to me) and worship in your presence” (Psalm 24:3-6). “You will be my people, and I will your God” (v.22), said The Lord. So “Open us, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors. and let the King of glory enter! Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty…” (Psalm 24:7-10)! I will devote myself to Him for He has given Himself to me. Hallelujah!
