Friends, I know many are gathered today in prayer for our nation and the election process, and I appreciate the good emphasis of our pastors and churches on prayer in the last few weeks leading up to today. I believe in prayer, and believe the God who reigns supreme hears us and answers.
As you pray for our nation today, I would also ask that you pray especially for Marla Buettner and the family of Rev. Bill Buettner. Yesterday, November 7, just before 10 p.m., Rev. Buettner slid into the arms of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family. I am grateful to Pastors Paul Underhay and Julius Sanna for being with Bill and the family yesterday.
Joan and I are in Chicago preparing for our daughter’s wedding. News of Bill’s passing last night came as a shock to us. As you may remember from a previous email, I visited with Bill in his home about six weeks ago. I took the attached photo of him in his living room with his massive dog. Bill informed me during my visit that he had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). At the time of my visit, I was still able to understand his speech and he was still walking well and even driving. So, I was not prepared to received the news I received last night.
Bill Buettner was serving as district secretary of the Southern Florida District upon my arrival two and a half years ago, and he and Marla welcomed us so warmly. He served the Southern Florida District very well during his tenure.
Bill pastored six different Nazarene churches on five districts: Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas City and Southern Florida. For almost 17 years, he served as pastor of the Lake Worth First Church of the Nazarene, until 2013. For the past 4 years he served as a chaplain in hospice ministry. We all loved Pastor Bill and he will be dearly missed. His ministry touched and impacted countless lives.
Please pray especially for Marla, Bill’s wife, and their three adult children, Tawna, Tina and Tony, and the extended family during this time of loss.
We will try to keep you informed as regards funeral plans and visitation.
Thanks for praying.
