73 of our pastors and spouses gathered at LPCCC for their annual retreat to rest relax and renew. Our guest was Dr. Dan Boone who spoke to those of us in yesteryear and exile from Isaiah 40 through 55. The Friday free time seemed to be a big hit with everyone.
The DS offered boat rides for most of the afternoon. Jason and Courtney Hawk, our pastoral team at Punta Gorda made the last trip around the lake. Others preferred the new zip line and rock climbing wall now open.
We prayed together for our nation on our knees before God. And we committed to a Great Day of Prayer on October 7, 2012. Pastors accepted the challenge in light of the fact that we have witnessed increased acts of hostility toward people of biblical faith; forbiddance of references to God and Jesus during many governmental ceremonies; funding and services for unbiblical values; a growing preferentialism for other religions. The Defense of Marriage Act has been cast aside. It is time for we who believe In God We Trust, to call on God and to agree in prayer for the spiritual healing our nation needs.
Dr. Gary Durham, pastor at Palm City New Hope Fellowship led the prayer for our nation. We desire that every church joins in prayer with other Evangelical Christians around the USA for the Great Day of Prayer for revival in our land this Sunday an in the remaining days leading up to our national elections. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is our biblical focus.
October 7th is also National Right to Life Sunday. America recently crossed the line of 55 million abortions. The number is growing every day. Pro-life groups were prevented from attending a White House-sponsored health care summit. All funding for abstinence-only education has been replaced with comprehensive sexual education, proven to increase teen pregnancies and abortions.
Have we gone too far? I pray not. In reading the prophet Jeremiah, it seems that a line can be crossed, at which time the Lord says, Enough! Dont pray. Dont even bother fasting. I will pay no attention! God is loving and patient and longsuffering, but His patience can run out as Jeremiah 14:11-15 reveals. In 15:1 the Lord says, Even if Moses and Samuel (two of the greatest intercessors in the entire Bible) stood before me pleading for these people, I would not help them. And Gods people rolled on toward judgment.
It is only too late if we have given up and no longer humble ourselves, pray and seek His face. Lets unite in prayer and call on God together this Sunday.
Dr. David F. Nixon
