The Southern Florida Work & Witness Team to Ecuador arrived safely from Miami on Saturday night about 8:40 p.m. The new Quito airport is about an hour from the Seminary and Mission compound. The missionaries had prepared snacks, gave us our room assignments and short orientation.
On Sunday the group of 28, split up and went to 3 different churches. The three churches were treated with sermons from Dr. David Nixon, Rev. Pascal Permis and Rev. David Rambarran. All three services went extremely well with over 100 people responding to be saved or sanctified.
There are two photos attached of the service where Dr. Nixon preached at the Carcelen Bajo Church of the Nazarene. The first photo shows Dr. Nixon preaching and he is being interpreted by Rev. Dwight Rich, Southern Florida missionary to Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela.
The second photo shows the 30+ people who responded to the invitation with our team members supporting everyone in prayer.
Following lunch at a new modern mall food court, the team was taken to the “Middle of the World” — Latitude 00.00.00 — the equator. The attached photo shows the team with the equator monument in the background. We learned that when you are on the equator you weigh about 2.5 pounds less than anywhere else in the world. The team was pleased about that — especially while we were eating ice cream and cake tonight.
The final photo shows W&W Coordinator, Rev. Roy Shuck, giving instructions at our team meeting tonight. Dwight Rich also talked with us tonight to inform us of all the work in the three countries for which he is the Field Strategy Coordinator. Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela currently have 41,000 members in 350 organized Nazarene Churches. Their goal is to have 600 churches and 62,000 members by 2015 — Amazing!
Breakfast is at 7 a.m. in the morning — and after devotions we begin all our work efforts.
