Dr. David Nixon
Dr. David F. Nixon served as District Superintendent of the Southern Florida District Church of the Nazarene from 2005 to 2014, until retirement on May 5, 2014. He was honored District Superintendent Emeritus, by the 41st District Assembly convened in Bradenton, FL. In this position he oversaw eighty-six organized churches and 15 new starts or parent affiliated congregations in a multi-ethnic region of the Florida peninsula. Prior to this he served for ten years as District Superintendent of the Dallas District.
Dr. Nixon is a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, and holds the Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He also earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. He has had experience as a youth pastor and as a senior pastor of multiple-staff churches. His pastoral experience includes small, medium and large churches, rural and urban, small towns and metropolises. He moved to Dallas, TX, from Nashville, TN, after twenty-five years in the pastoral ministry, with pastoral assignments in Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee.
During his ministry David has served on numerous boards and councils. He is the author of four books: The Year of the Locust, Venom in My Veins, Leading the Comeback Church, and Walking the Leadership Higher Ground. He has written numerous articles in his denomination’s periodicals and has also written Sunday School lessons for Word Action, the adult curriculum for the Church of the Nazarene.
David has been a retreat speaker for pastors and spouses and seminar leader of pastors’ Skill Schools and Pastors’ Learning Days. In 2004, led workshops for WordAction on Evangelism through the Sunday School in nine PALCONS at our Regional Universities. In 2006 he began a Spiritual Leadership Training ministry to students and pastors that has taken him to Nairobi, Kenya, Kigali, Rwanda, Freetown, Sierra Leone, Antananarivo, Madagascar, Lusaka, Zambia, and Praia, Cape Verde on the continent of Africa. In this hemisphere, he has held conferences in Guyana, Belize, and Haiti.
Dr. Nixon has a passion for Missions having been on 37 mission trips to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Alaska, West Berlin and Moscow, the Navajo Nation, South Africa, Ecuador, Brazil, Barbados, Nicaragua, and Haiti. He has made nine trips to Haiti since the 2010 Earthquake that claimed over 300,000 lives. The Partnership that developed with the Gros-Morne, Haiti, Church of the Nazarene, made it possible to complete a three-story sanctuary that seats 2,000, a state of the art Computer Lab, repair, renovation and renaming of the Hope 112 School that ministers to nearly 1,000 children. This Missional model has spawned partnerships on the Lower, Central and Upper Arbonite Districts in Haiti.
Dr. Nixon and his wife Kaye, make their home in Columbia, SC, and have two grown daughters, Sonya, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee and Jennifer (Keith) Grimaud of Columbia, South Carolina. They are the proud grandparents of Sophie Grace, Ava Louise, Brady Bennett and Beatrice Ann Grimaud.
