Historic partnership formed at General Assembly 2017! June 22, 2017 the Southern Florida District and the Nazarene Theological Seminary of Haiti (STNH) formed a partnership to enhance the ministerial training program of both entities. The signing of the partnership document took place in the Exhibit Hall of the General Assembly, at the Mesoamerica region booth. Approximately one third of Southern Florida’s 100 Nazarene churches are French and Creole speaking, and pastored by pastors of Haitian descent. The partnership with the Haiti Seminary will allow for STNH professors to assist in the teaching of modular courses for ordination credit in Southern Florida through video conference technology, and will allow for Southern Florida’s qualified faculty to assist teaching the STNH students in Haiti.
The partnership also seeks to improve the French and Creole bibliographical offerings to students, as well as improvements to STNH facilities in Port au Prince, as well as providing for teacher training opportunities. STNH provides a certificate program, a diploma and a B.A. in Pastoral Ministry. The partnership may also provide an initial pathway to the B.A. for those who complete the Modular Course of Study and also meet the entrance requirements for the STNH B.A. program. An additional partnership is in the works between STNH and the USA/Canada Multicultural Ministries Office to offer B.A. courses in French/Creole to USAC Region students. Be looking for news about this development soon!
Present for the signing of the SFD-STNH partnership document were STNH president Dr Maitre, Haiti Field Strategy Coordinator Rev Jacques and his wife, Mesoamerica regional education coordinator Dr Ruben Fernandez, USA/Canada Haitian Ministries Coordinator Rev Pascal Permis, SFD District Superintendent Dr Brian Wilson and SFD Ministerial Board Chairman Rev Dan Cupp.
While this partnership is between the SFD and STNH, it provides for the program to be used by other districts in the USA and Canada who wish to join the courses offered by video conference. The SFD is establishing 10 teleconference classrooms across the district, on both Florida coasts and in the Heartland area, to provide greater accessibility to all students. We celebrate this historic agreement and international partnership for the strengthening of our ministerial preparation programs in USA/Canada and in Haiti!
